03.1. Data description
The demographic indicators calculated on an annual basis are as follows: The crude rate of population change is the ratio of the population change during the year to the average population in that year. The value is expressed per 1 000 persons. The aging index of population is taken to be the ratio of the population aged 60 and over to the population aged 0-19 years, estimated in mid-reference year. The average age of the population is the mean age of its members (arithmetic mean). The total dependency ratio of the population is the ratio of the population aged 0-14 and 65 and over to the population aged 15-64, estimated in the middle of the reference year. The young-age dependency ratio of the population is the ratio of the total number of young people aged 0-14 to the number of persons of working age (from 15 to 64). The old-age dependency ratio is the ratio of the total number of elderly people at an age when they are generally economically inactive (aged 65 and over) to the number of working age persons (from 15 to 64). The total fertility rate is the most common indicator of population fertility, which shows the total number of live births per woman under fertility conditions by age in the year of observation. It is calculated as the sum of specific fertility rates by age, which actually represent the ratio of the number of live births to mothers of a certain age to the number of women of the same age.

03.4. Statistical concepts and definitions
To calculate the indicator “crude rate of total population change”, the estimated population as of January 1^st of year T and T-1 is used. The indicators such as aging index, average age and dependency ratios are calculated based on mid-year population estimates. To calculate the total fertility rate indicator, the number of live births according to the age of the mother and the estimated number of women according to their completed years of age are used. Since population estimates are calculated on the basis of population census and annual data on natural and mechanical movements, the concept of the "usual population" used in the census is retained in the definition of population estimates. Data collection is aligned with the definition of “usual population”.

Data are available at the level of the Republic of Serbia and its regions, as well as areas and municipalities. Since 1999, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia has no information on the AP Kosovo and Metohija, so they are not included in the coverage of the Republic of Serbia data (total).
