Definition

Percentage of household members using improved sources of drinking water either in their dwelling/yard/plot or within 30 minutes round trip collection time. 

Methodological explanations

Improved sources of drinking water are: piped water (piped into dwelling, piped to yard/plot, piped to neighbour, public tap/standpipe, tube well/borehole), dug well (protected well), spring (protected spring), rainwater, tanker-truck and bottled water.

Method of calculation

The number of members of households using improved sources of drinking water either in their dwelling/yard/plot or within 30 minutes round trip collection time is divided by the number of members of all households and multiplied by 100.

 

The observation unit is members of all surveyed households.
