Methodological explanations

The number of new HIV infections per 1,000 uninfected population, by sex and age, represents the number of new HIV infections per 1,000 people among the uninfected population.

Method of calculation

HIV incidence is modelled using the Spectrum software. The software incorporates data on HIV prevalence, the number of people on treatment, demographics and other relevant indicators to estimate HIV incidence.
