Percentage of women aged 15-49 years attended at least four times by ANY provider (either skilled or unskilled, excluding traditional birth attendants).

Methodological explanations

WHO recommends a minimum of four antenatal visits based on a review of the effectiveness of different models of antenatal care. WHO guidelines are specific on the content of antenatal care visits, which include: Blood pressure measurement; Urine testing for bacteria and proteinuria; Blood testing to detect syphilis and severe anemia; Weight/height measurement (optional).

Method of calculation

Number of women aged 15-49 years attended at least four times by ANY provider (either skilled or unskilled, excluding traditional birth attendants) is divided by overall number of women aged 15-49 years with a birth in two years preceding the survey. The result is then multiplied by 100.

 

Observation unit are women aged 15-49 years with a birth in two years preceding the survey.
