13.2.2 Total greenhouse gas emissions per year

Global indicator name

13.2.2 Total greenhouse gas emissions per year

Target

13.2 Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning

Goal

Goal 13. Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

Definition and methodologyTop
Definition

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change aims at stabilizing greenhouse gas (GHG) concentrations and preventing dangerous human interference with the climate system. Estimating the levels of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals is an important element of the efforts to achieve this objective.

The Government of Serbia ratified the Convention in 2001.

The indicator covers emissions of five greenhouse gases excluding the Land Use, Land Use Change and forestry (LULUCF) sector: carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), hydrofluorocarbons (HFC). The remaining two greenhouse gases: perfluorocarbons (PFCs) and nitrogen trifluoride (NF3) are not included in the inventory, because the activities that lead to their emissions do not exist in Serbia.

Methodological explanations

The indicator covers emissions of five greenhouse gases excluding the Land Use, Land Use Change and forestry (LULUCF) sector: carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), hydrofluorocarbons (HFC).

The remaining two greenhouse gases: perfluorocarbons (PFCs) and nitrogen trifluoride (NF3) are not included in the inventory, because the activities that lead to their emissions do not exist in Serbia.

Method of calculation

The indicator is calculated in accordance with the international IPCC 2006 methodology.
